Secretary of State bonds andoaths 1837-1844, 1846-1920

Bonds are postedby public officials to secure their fiduciary responsibilities. Oaths are swornand filed by public officials to assure their loyalty to the government, andtheir promise to uphold the duties of the office. No one governmental officehas had the responsibility for filing all bonds and oaths. The Comptroller'soffice at some point maintained certificates of bonds, and possibly even oaths. However, state law has required many if not most state officers to file bondsand oaths with the Texas Secretary of State (as early as 1846). These recordsare bonds and oaths and some related records of elected and appointed officialsof the Republic and State of Texas, of districts, counties, and municipalities, dating 1837-1844, 1846-1920.
